Girtha Rising — A Story in Nine Parts

Girtha’s story lives somewhere between memory and imagination.

These chapters are not strict historical accounts, but narrative reconstructions—grounded in family history, shaped by place, and guided by what feels true.

Together, they form a portrait of a life lived across movement, loss, beauty, family, endurance, and love.

About This Series

Girtha Patrick was my great-grandmother. Her story reaches me through family memory, fragments of history, place, and imagination.

This series is my way of gathering those fragments into something living. It is not a traditional biography. It is a narrative portrait told in chapters.

Some moments are rooted in known facts. Others are reconstructed with care to reflect emotional and historical truth.

How to Read This Story

A Note on Form

This series blends family history with narrative reconstruction.

Where the historical record is clear, I follow it. Where details are missing, I write with care, imagination, and respect for the people whose lives shaped this family story.

Begin the Story

Girtha’s life cannot be reduced to a chart or a line of descent.

She comes forward in glimpses—through gardens, journeys, labor, grief, song, family, and place.

This is where I begin.
